On March 2008 our son Kyle was diagnosed with leukemia days after our move to Marbella, Spain. On his 13th birthday he was transfered to the oncology ward in the Malaga Childrens Hospital where he underwent chemotherapy treatment. Weeks before Christmas the leukemia entered into his spinal column and brain. The treatment was intensified culminating in a bone marrow transplant with his sister Lauren the donor. Today Kyle is cancer free but fighting for his life against scleroderma (hardening of the skin) casued by Graft vs. Host Disease (rejection of Laurens bone marrow) as well as various other side effects caused by his treatment. We invite you to join the fight to help Kyle overcome this disease!
The BlessKyle Fund has been established to help with the numerous expenses related to his treatment and to help him achieve an indepent future. We also use this money to help other children and their families who are struggling with cancer related illnesses.
I bring you a compilation of some of my favorite compositions and arrangements from Brazil, Argentina, Spain and even two Beatles arrangements by a Japanese composer. As you listen to them may they inspire your soul and touch your heart.
All of the pieces on this CD were rehearsed and shaped over a two year period in the corridors, rooms and even the isolation chamber of the Children’S Hospital in Malaga, Spain.
Please forward to your friends & thanks for helping us fight the fight!
Dear Friends & Family,
Today we are recalling that dramatic day when we received Kyle's diagnosis. Rushed by ambulance through the Easter parade traffic, 6 days on dialysis in ICU and not the brightest prognosis to live, we are now, 4 years later, about to celebrate Kyle's 17th birthday! What a glorious time! Tonight we started the celebrations a week early by going to a movie (about the only time we can persuade Kyle to get out).
Our last update spoke about his necrosis (dead bones) which affects his hips and right shoulder. He starts physiotherapy next week after various tests and x-rays which showed it to have worsened. Kyle just takes things in stride and is exercising his opinions and showing appropriate signs of being a teenager. He refuses to be pushed around in the wheelchair and is most comfortable at home.
Mom is trying to escape home regularly and has started Spanish conversation classes! I also get my new car, a Peugeot 206, kindly given to me by a friend. (Peugeot is a family tradition on my Dad´s side). Talking about my Dad, I returned recently from Cape Town where I met up with my sisters and family friends to spread my Dad's ashes - a very special time.
Lauren celebrated her 14th birthday earlier this month and is almost as tall as me! She is doing extremely well at school and also takes dance and drama lessons for 8 hours a week. Her dream is to go to a special dance and theatre workshop in London this summer.
Kurt has been waiting on documents and red tape before starting work on his brother's house again near Granada. He is also busy working on a new guitar repertoire for the wedding season which begins in May. The church side of things is going well and tremendously sweet.
If you would like to give something for Kyle´s birthday we have set up the BlessKyle Fund www.lightfromadarkplace.com to help us as a family cope with the tremendous financial stress and also to delight Kyle with things that improve the quality of his life.
In all of this we continue to seek God's peace and trust for more healing. Our love to you with requests for continued prayer.
Kurt, Melanie, Kyle and Lauren xxxxx
